eSIM on Prestmit — Complete Guide

Everything you need to know about eSIM on Prestmit — what it is, how to check device compatibility, how to buy, how to activate, how to top up, and answers to frequently asked questions.

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a virtual SIM card built directly into your device. It lets you activate a mobile data plan without a physical SIM card, making it ideal for travellers who want to stay connected without paying expensive roaming charges.

Please Note: All Prestmit eSIM plans are data-only. They do not include a phone number or SMS capability.

Step 1 — Check if your device supports eSIM

Before purchasing, confirm your device is eSIM-compatible.

iPhone

iPhones from the XR onwards support eSIM. To confirm: go to Settings > General > About and scroll down. If you see a 32-digit EID number, your iPhone supports eSIM.

Android

Steps vary by manufacturer, but the logic is the same. Go to Settings > Network & Internet (or Connections) > SIM card / Mobile network. If you see an option to add a new SIM digitally, your device likely supports eSIM. You can also check your device's official specifications page to confirm.

For a full list of compatible devices, see: Devices that support eSIM technology. For device-specific setup instructions, see: eSIM setup guide by device type.

If your device does not support eSIM, you will not be able to use this feature. Consider upgrading to an eSIM-compatible device.

Step 2 — Buy an eSIM on Prestmit

  1. Log in to your Prestmit account (app or website).

  2. Select eSIM from the services list.

  3. Choose your desired country and data package.

  4. Accept the terms and conditions.

  5. Proceed to payment.

Once payment is confirmed, your eSIM profile and QR code are provided instantly. A 2% processing fee applies to all eSIM plan purchases.

Please Note: eSIM purchases are non-refundable once completed.

Step 3 — Activate your eSIM

Your eSIM must be activated before it will work. The validity period begins from the moment you activate it — not from the time of purchase. Activate only when you are ready to use it.

How to activate on iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Mobile Data (or Cellular).

  2. Tap Add eSIM or Add Data Plan.

  3. Select Use QR Code and scan the QR code provided by Prestmit.

  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

  5. Once installed, turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM profile.

How to activate on Android

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs (or Connections > SIM Manager depending on your device).

  2. Tap Add SIM or Download a SIM.

  3. Scan the QR code provided by Prestmit.

  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

  5. Enable Data Roaming on the eSIM profile.

Please Note: Most eSIM profiles can only be downloaded once. Keep your QR code safe. If you delete your eSIM, you can reinstall it using the original QR code — provided it has not already been used on another device.

Step 4 — Top up your eSIM

If you need more data before your plan expires, you can top up from the Prestmit app or website.

  1. Log in to your Prestmit account.

  2. Navigate to your eSIM dashboard.

  3. Select the eSIM you want to top up (it must be in an active state).

  4. Choose a data package and proceed with payment.

Please Note: You cannot top up an eSIM that has not yet been activated or that has expired. If you see the error "the order's status doesn't support the action," it means the eSIM is not in an active state. Activate it first, then top up.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries are supported?
Available countries are listed when you select an eSIM plan in the app. Coverage is updated regularly.

Can I use a physical SIM and an eSIM at the same time?
Yes, if your device supports dual SIM. You can run both simultaneously — useful for keeping a local number while using an eSIM data plan abroad.

Can I use my eSIM in another country?
eSIMs are not VPNs. Each eSIM plan is tied to a specific country and only works when you are physically in that country. A Nigerian eSIM only works in Nigeria, and so on for all other countries. If you are travelling, purchase a plan for your destination country.

Does the eSIM include calls or SMS?
No. All Prestmit eSIM plans are data-only. They do not come with a phone number or SMS capability.

When does my eSIM validity start?
Validity begins the moment you activate the eSIM on your device, not when you purchase it. Activate only when you are ready to use it.

Can I transfer my eSIM to a new device?
No. Once an eSIM is activated on a device, it cannot be transferred. If it has not yet been activated, you can scan the QR code on a different device.

Can I deactivate my eSIM temporarily?
Yes. You can turn off the eSIM profile in your device settings without deleting it. This suspends usage without losing your configuration.

How many eSIMs can I store on one device?
Most devices support multiple stored eSIM profiles, but only one can be active at a time. Check your device manual for the exact limit.

Can I monitor my data usage?
Yes. You can view real-time data usage through the Prestmit app under your eSIM dashboard.

What happens when I exceed my data limit?
Your data stops. You can purchase a top-up from the Prestmit app or website at any time.

Are Prestmit eSIMs 5G enabled?
Most plans support 5G where available. You also need a 5G-compatible device and be in a region with 5G coverage.

Can I share my eSIM data via hotspot?
Yes, tethering/hotspot is supported. The eSIM profile itself is linked to one device, but you can share the data connection with other devices via hotspot.

Is eSIM secure?
Yes. eSIMs cannot be physically removed or tampered with. They use encrypted profiles, which makes them more secure than a traditional physical SIM.

Are there hidden fees?
No hidden fees. A 2% processing fee applies to every eSIM purchase. No minimum order quantity is required.

Can I get a refund?
No. eSIM purchases are non-refundable once completed.

What are the APN settings?
APN settings configure automatically during activation in most cases. If manual setup is required, contact our support team for specific instructions.

What if I encounter installation errors?
Check that your device is updated to the latest software, is eSIM-compatible, and that you are following the activation steps for your device type. If the issue continues, contact support via the in-app live chat.

What if my device is not compatible?
You will not be able to use eSIM. You will need an eSIM-compatible device to use this service.

If you have any questions, contact our support team 24/7 via the in-app live chat or email help@prestmit.com.
